Shipping packages from China to Georgia requires navigating three primary hurdles:
1. Unreliable Multi-Country Transshipment: Standard postal parcels route through multiple transit hubs across Europe or the Middle East, dragging delivery times past 25 to 45 days. Parcels frequently encounter tracking blackouts or go missing due to damaged airway bills;
2. Georgian Customs Exemption (GEL 300) & 18% VAT Threshold: Under Georgian Revenue Service regulations, personal postal imports with a declared value under 300 Georgian Lari (GEL, approx. USD $110) and weighing under 30 kg are exempt from customs duty and 18% import VAT. Packages exceeding GEL 300 face mandatory 18% VAT plus complex customs clearance processing fees;
3. Clearance of Seasonings and Electronic Accessories: Everyday items such as Sichuan soup bases, herbal tea concentrates, and battery-powered electronics are frequently rejected by inexperienced freight handlers or detained at Tbilisi Airport due to improper declaration.
Our central Nanjing hub provides tailored logistics for the Georgian expat community:
1. Direct Commercial Air Transit to Tbilisi (TBS) in 5-8 Business Days: Shipments dispatch via scheduled commercial flights to Georgia, bypassing erratic overland routes and delivering reliable transit times;
2. 30 Days Free Storage & Multi-Platform Consolidation: Shop across Taobao, Pinduoduo, JD, and VIP.com. Incoming packages are weighed, photographed, and consolidated into a single reinforced box to eliminate dead weight;
3. Industrial Vacuum Packing (Up to 70% Volume Reduction): For winter parkas, sweaters, and thermal duvets required during chilly Caucasian winters, high-powered vacuum machines compress textiles into dense blocks, drastically lowering volumetric charges;
4. Compliance Management & DDP Delivery: Our brokerage team assists shippers in declaring goods within the GEL 300 duty-free threshold or arranges DDP all-inclusive clearance, ensuring recipients receive parcels at home without bureaucratic customs visits.
Evaluate available transit options to Georgia:
| Service Tier | Transit Time | Recommended Cargo | Billing & Customs Standards | Local Final Delivery in Georgia | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **DDExpress Georgia Air Express** | **5-8 Business Days** | Multi-store Taobao parcels, digital nomad electronics, winter parkas, approved seasonings | Optimized billable weight, GEL 300 compliance, DDP available | Courier delivery to door in Tbilisi & Batumi or pickup | | **Standard Postal EMS** | 20-35 Business Days | Non-battery apparel and generic goods | Unpredictable transit, high risk of triggering 18% VAT | Self-collection required at local Georgian Post office | | **Commercial Express (DHL/FedEx)** | 4-7 Business Days | High-priority commercial documents | Expensive base rates, strict volumetric billing, automatic VAT assessment | Commercial courier delivery |
Air freight charges are calculated based on the greater of actual gross weight vs. volumetric weight (L cm × W cm × H cm ÷ 6000).
Real Example: Mr. Lin, a remote developer living in Tbilisi, purchased winter clothing and home office gear on Taobao: a down jacket, 2 heavy hoodies, an ergonomic wrist rest, precision screwdriver kit, 2 packs of hot pot base, and cold remedies. Four supplier parcels arrived at the Nanjing warehouse weighing 5.2 kg in total, with raw packaging volume totaling 11.5 kg volumetric weight.
1. Warehouse Consolidation: Discarded heavy merchant outer cartons. Down wear and hoodies were industrially vacuum compressed, while seasonings and tools were packed as inner cushioning;
2. Compact Re-boxing: Consolidated into a single 38cm × 28cm × 25cm 5-ply carton, reducing volumetric weight to 4.43 kg;
3. Final Billing: Billed strictly on the actual weight of 4.8 kg, saving 6.7 kg in air freight costs. Declared value was structured under GEL 300, delivering the package to Mr. Lin's Tbilisi apartment with zero tax surprises.
